Bones Embedded on Rocks: Drumheller Revisited

by: Mariko

I had the opportunity of going into one of the most visited landmark in my province of Alberta, the Royal Tyrell Museum, home of genuine fossils from the abovementioned place and recently from around the world..I was there when I was in Grade 7 and back then there was not much dinosaur bones to be seen yet. There was a lot of digging goin on and we were shown how Paleontologist would extract a fossilized structure out of a piece of rock. We were told that sometimes, it would take a year to piece out a piece of leg (which is ,of course, huge by modern standard ) from a boulder.

This time, we were told that the fossils on display were from all over the world, not only dugged out from Alberta and there was a variety of animals and plants that were still attach to the rock from where it was coming from…There was a genuine shop selling fossils but apparently their stuff were not coming from the surrounding Drumheller but from diggings in the United States. Nobody was allowed to dig except licensed Paleontologist and even their numbers were regulated by the government.

Reading the history of the place, I realized that Drumheller and Alberta,for that particular matter has become the catch basin of Dinosaurs millions of years ago when the Ice caps in the North Atlantic melted. That explains why thousands of fossil bones were found in our province and why we have one of the largest oil deposits in the world..I want to share with my readers some of the pics that I got when me and my family drove there. Here goes;

Preparing for a Hong Kong getaway
by Papi_pol

Hong Kong is one of the busiest and the most beautiful territories today on this planet. It has by far tons of tourist destinations and commercial establishments to keep you busy for hours and hours a day. With nearly millions of travelers coming in and going out of the country, it is better to prepare well. And to prepare well, you better consider some of these factors in order for you to experience a well deserved and unforgettable Hong Kong Experience.

1. Do your research. Read articles on Hong Kong, its tourist spots, its restaurants, hotels, and places of interest. Not only does reading about Hong Kong will give you better insight on what you will expect, but also will provide you an overview of what the country can provide to your holiday or vacation.

2. pick a target date on when you want to visit Hong Kong, and reserve your plane tickets and hotel tickets early. This is to avoid cramming and rushing in the peak seasons.

3. Once you have decided on the airline that you will take and the hotel you are going to stay in, better plan your travel stops. Because Hong Kong has at least hundreds of places to see and to hang out, better plan your itineraries ahead of time based on your finances and time of stay.

4. Check the center for disease control for any diseases that could be a threat to your immune system while spending your days there. You won’t be enjoying your stay if you get sick. So be healthy, get inoculated, and enjoy the sights. It is also important to know what food allergies you have and to do some research on the local cuisine of Hong Kong to know where to dine and what to avoid.

5. Some airlines restrict overweight baggage so don’t overpack. Hong Kong is the number one shopping place in the world, so better reserve some space for you to stuff some stuff you bought. Better to bring some extra cash too. It would be a shame if you have finally found the things you need at a low price yet your wallet’s running low on cash.

6. Finally, in my opinion it would be great for you to bring somebody along. Hong Kong may be small, but it is big on sights. Wouldn’t you want to share that with somebody? Or if that’s not the case, then try to be friends with people around town.

When I went to Hong Kong, I have experienced a good deal of time touring the city. I also had some great deals in the markets and bazaars. But most importantly, I had an unforgettable time visiting Hong Kong because I PLANNED early, and I planned well. So next time you consider visiting Hong Kong, keep these things in mind.

Blogging tips for Filipinos

bloggingEvery time I read the news, turn on the television, or open any business magazine, I always see and hear about the world’s dwindling economy – how all the businesses in the world lay-off employees to cut costs, how salaries are going down while prices and expenses are going up, and how day by day thousands upon thousands of people end-up in the “Bum” list of jobless folks. This may be the primary reason why former company workhorses now turn to the internet to work at home and earn a living online. If you try and look at most of the job openings for online bloggers, you will see that most of blog freelancers are paid by the “number of articles submitted” – rare would you see job openings that would pay you monthly or with a fixed retainer. And as a typical paid-blogger, you should always bear in mind to write fast so you could finish a lot of jobs at the least possible time.

Here are some tips to write quality blogs with the least possible time.
A writer should:

  1. Spend a good deal of time to read up on the topic at hand – A writer should internalize the subject of the article which is in my opinion should comprise at least 50% of the job allottment. He or she should also read related blogs about the topic in order to see the “flow” of the topic.
  2. Create a deadline or timetable for the completion of the project – in my experience, posing deadlines will often make your mind more active. Writers tend to get lazy and get more distracted if deadlines are not present to act as guides.
  3. Smile – Smiling often boosts a writer’s morale and gives him or her positive outlooks. Feeling sad or having problems makes your mind wander and keeps you agitated enough to bring your thinking to a sense of confusion.
  4. Write in a well-lit room – A dark room makes you feel sleepy and tends to “render you unconscious” sometimes.
  5. Remember your homekeys – a refresher course of “Typing 101″ will go great lengths and will enable you to upgrade your typing skills to its fullest potential.
  6. Always keep a glass of fresh drinking water by your side – water keeps your brain Oxygenated allowing it think faster and work quicker. Yes, Coffee keeps you awake and on your toes, however it agitates your brain cells too much that most of brain’s neurons get a large increase in electronic impulses which could cause confusion, tension, and stress.
  7. Last but not least – Think of the Blog, Not the Money earned in selling it – always keep in mind that you are writing articles; works of art read by millions of people around the globe. Write fast but always maintain the qualities of your articles. Writing fast could earn you lots of dollars, but hey, Leonardo Da Vinci did not finish the “Mona Lisa” in an hour.
